On 1st August 2022, the China Business summit 2022, which NZINC and the Auckland business chamber host. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern delivered an opening speech.

David Boyle, the CEO of Primary Collaboration New Zealand and one of NZBRiC executive board members, joined one of the summit panels- VIEW FROM ‘ON THE GROUND’ IN SHANGHAI. This panel was hosted by Andrew White, Regional Director for Greater China at New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE), based in Shanghai.
The panel discussed that NZ Companies based in China are navigating a complex environment. Keeping pace in a fast-changing Chinese market irrespective of the pressure that repeated Covid lockdowns – particularly in Shanghai – and supply chain issues have wrought requires a strong focus. Elizabeth Reid:
Elizabeth Reid is the China Country Manager for Synlait Milk and has been in China since 2020 after taking the opportunity to move to this dynamic market during the global pandemic. In 2021 she was elected Chair of NZBRIC (New Zealand Business Roundtable in China). She was committed to the ongoing development of this forum to support the New Zealand business community in China. Elizabeth gained an undergraduate degree in Psychology and a Ph.D. in Chemistry before embarking on a lifelong career in the New Zealand Dairy Industry, initially with Fonterra and for the last five years with Synlait. In her career, she has focused on added-value products in technical, business development, marketing, and strategy roles.
David Boyle :
was appointed as CEO of Primary Collaboration NZ (Shanghai) Ltd at the beginning of 2019. David first came to China with Lion Nathan brewers in 1997 as one of their first group of Directors. After ten years with Lion Nathan, he has held COO and CEO roles in local Chinese and American businesses based in Shanghai. In 2008, he and his wife formed their HR and consulting firm in Shanghai, supporting International companies' entry to China with recruitment, business development, and legal guidance. David also has keen interests in sports and philanthropy and was a co-founder of two separate charities in China, Sport For All Foundation, and You Dao Foundation, supporting Chinese children's development. He has an undergraduate degree in languages and Chinese history and a Master's degree in Business Administration.
Andrew White:
Based in Beijing, Andrew looks after NZTE operations and relationships in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Andrew was previously regional director for Europe, overseeing NZTE's offices and stakeholder relationships across the region. Andrew returned to New Zealand in 2009 after 18 years in China and Japan. During this time, he held several NZTE roles, including director for China, overseeing the operations of NZTE's offices, critical relationships across this market, and an important trade partner for New Zealand.
